This section provides services to support the student’s life at the university and help them realize their career aspirations. It facilitates students social, personality and academic growth and development through counseling and career guidance. The counseling services are broadened to address the wide array of concerns common with students and youth in the university today. To accomplish this office of the Dean of students has trained peer counselors spread across all the programs and distributed in the main students residential places. This strategy helps to quickly identify students with problems that require counseling. The office also maintains a close interaction with members of the faculty where the students are registered to help resolve problems that may arise at that level. The peer counselors are frequently trained to keep abreast of any emerging issues in key areas of concern for the youth like HIV/AIDS scourge and Alcohol and Drug Abuse. This supplements the efforts of the University Aids Control Unit (ACU).


When at Pwani University you can enjoy famous tropical coastal “paradise” weather characterized by sunny and windy days and cool nights. The university is close to the Indian Ocean beach and some of the international recognized tourism sites.The community at the university boosts of a rich diversity of people from various parts of the country. This together with the rich coastal hospitality blends a unique culture of tolerance and togetherness among the university community.


 Pwani University is a sports powerhouse in the region. It participates in various local tournaments and leagues in nearly all the common disciplines of sports and recreational activities. Currently it dominates in basket ball, soccer, rugby, and volleyball for both male and female categories. It is also involved in netball, athletics, handball and lawn tennis for outdoor games.  The university has champions in Chess, table tennis and Tae-kwon-do in COKUSA, a local chapter of Kenya University Sports Association (KUSA). Students at Pwani University can enjoy the sea breeze of the vast beaches of the Indian Ocean, relax and swim. The beaches provide nice picnic sites for parties and beach sporting activates. 


Pwani University Students health Unit has various facilities with capacity to offer different services to the University students. It offers both curative and preventive services. It has an equipped Laboratory from where examination of blood, stool and Urine samples can be carried out to facilitate a quick diagnosis. The pharmacy is stocked with essential drugs for curative and emergency conditions. In addition students and staff can get counseling and family planning advice from this facility. Attached to the health unit is VCT facility where students and staff can get counseling and check their HIV/AIDS status. The health Unit runs a 24 hours service with a standby ambulance service in case of emergencies. It has observation facilities exclusively for students only.It is mandatory for every student to register and undergo a complete medical examination at our Health unit or forwards his/her medical examination report to this facility.


Transport Services

The university currently has a fleet of vehicles to cater for transport services for students in academic trips/activities. Such transport is used during University Outreach programs.


Although the university does not guarantee accommodation to students, through the dean’s office it assists students to locate accommodation premises near the university with comfort, secure and affordable prices. To do this the offices works in conjunction with the students Union to maintain a list of the hostel service providers and their contacts.


Pwani University has a well furnished Dining Hall and Kitchen. The facility is being expanded in anticipation of the rising student population. The Kitchen provides quality meals at affordable prices. The services are offered on the basis of “pay as you eat” with transaction being done on ETR machines. The Students’ Common Centre has been refurbished recently and fitted with modern entertainment facilities including Dstv and soft seats. This is where the indoor games facilities are located.

Spiritual issues

The Dean’s office also assists the various faith-based groups to offer their services to students and staff. These include, the Catholic students Association, the Christian Union, the Seventh Day Adventist, the Muslim students Association and the Pwani Christian Fellowship group. The dean’s office ensures that the groups have the basic facilities to enable their Faithfull’s to pursue their spiritual goals in their stay at the University.

Unions and Clubs

In maintain a strong link between the students and the administration is a student union, Pwani University Students Association (PUSA). Guided by it recently revised constitution PUSA in collaboration with the Dean of Students office cater for the welfare of the students. PUSA also links the students with the rest of the world in clubs or societies activities. PUSA is governed by a council elected every year and has full furnished council office. Clubs and Societies are registered to allow them function within the University. Students are encouraged to join the various clubs and societies or form new for the purpose of enhancing their academic and social well-being. Currently the registered clubs and societies fall under the following categories: Academic, Religious, Communal service, Recreational and Environmental.

Internal Bursary

Each year the University sets aside funds to support needy students. The funds are spent to cater for tuition fees of students identified by the dean’s office and the students union. To further support such cases the office works closely with guardians and sponsors to find solutions to assist needy students. The dean maintains a close contact with managers of various Constituency Development Funds in the country to sort out any emerging issue that my touches on the students support while on campus. The students union, PUSA works very closely with the dean of students to advance the issues of the general student’s body. The union elects its leaders in a democratic process clearly spelt out in the constitution every new academic year. The elected leaders are taken through a thorough induction course to usher them into leadership.
