Pwani University is located 60Kms North of Mombasa in Kilifi Town off the Mombasa - Malindi Road, within Kilifi County. The University, formerly a constituent college of Kenyatta University was awarded a Charter making it a fully-fledged University on 31st January, 2013. The teaching, learning, research and community outreach. Pwani University is a fast growing institution keen on establishing necessary infrastructure to meet the academic demand of the increased student intake and will continue to seek solutions to its infrastructural challenges among various Government and Non-governmental agencies, in line with the governments’ public private partnership policy.

The Pwani University council invites applications from suitable, qualified and experienced persons with excellent credentials to lead and support the institution deliver on its mandate to fill the position of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration, Finance and Planning). The DVC reports to the Vice Chancellor and is part of the top management.


Duties and Responsibilities

The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration, Finance and Planning) is the in charge of the Administration, Finance and Planning division of the University. S/He will:

  1. Provide innovative and creative leadership in the areas of planning, human resource management, finance and physical resource management.
  2. Oversee the implementation of all procurement, fiscal, human resources, administrative policies and appropriate procedures to ensure efficient performance and delivery of services in the university in line with the strategic and master plans.
  3. Coordinate the preparation and implementation of the University budget and preparation of financial statements and management reports for presentation to the University Management.
  4. Coordinate the design, implementation, maintenance and development of appropriate human resource policies, procedures and systems that attract, develop and retain qualified and experienced human resources.
  5. Maintain efficiency and good order of the University and ensure proper enforcement of the legal directives, University statutes and regulations.
  6. Oversee the implementation and reporting of performance contracting system.
  7. Coordinate the efficient deployment and utilization of University resources.


An applicant for the position of the DVC (A, F & P) must have the following qualifications;

  1. Be a holder of PhD and be either a Professor or Associate Professor and be well published and an academic leader in his or her area of specialization.
  2. Have at least eight (8) years progressive experience in senior leadership/management in a recognized University, such as Dean/Director, Principal of campus, or Deputy Principal of a University College.
  3. Have an outstanding and internationally recognized scholarship record as evidenced by publications in refereed journals and University level.
  4. Have demonstrable ability in strategic planning and quality management systems.
  5. Have excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  6. Be of the highest ethical standards, integrity and professionalism and compliance with the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
  7. Have demonstrated ability in networking, fund-raising and management of research funds.
  8. Have excellent organizational, interpersonal and communicational skills.
  9. Obtain clearance from:- HELB, EACC, Kenya Revenue Authority, Credit Reference Bureau and have Certificate of Good Conduct.

Terms and Conditions

The successful candidate will be offered a competitive remuneration package, including house allowance and other benefits.

The appointments will be for a contractual period of five (5) years renewable for a further period of five years subject to satisfactory performance.
